“Stheno”

mixed mediums on cotton paper, December 2012
22.5 x 15 inches

Medusa's eldest sister, Stheno...
When Medusa was raped by Poseidon in Athena's temple, Athena accused Medusa of being the wrongdoer. She cursed the mortal Medusa with a severe punishment. Her eldest sister, Stheno stood up for her little sister's innocence. Athena threatened the same to befall her, but Stheno remained loyal to Medusa. Despite all consequences, she stood by her side. Banished to the ends of this world, cursed and tormented forever. This is a tribute to Stheno. Not a Gorgon monster with hair of venomous snakes, but a beautiful, women's advocate. A faithful, older sister.
